Ghana's Black Stars Secure 10th Successive AFCON Qualification

The Black Stars of Ghana have secured their ticket to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast following their impressive victory against the Central African Republic on Thursday, September 7.

In a thrilling match held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Ghana's national football team, led by coach Chris Hughton, emerged triumphant with a 2-1 win. This victory cemented their place as one of two teams to advance from Group E of the AFCON 2023 qualifying tournament.

Mohammed Kudus and Ernest Nuamah were the Black Stars' heroes of the day, as their goals ensured Ghana's qualification to the renowned event in Ivory Coast. These hits demonstrated talent, tenacity, and collaboration.

The early moments of the game saw the Central African Republic, represented by the Wild Beats, dominating the field. Louis Mafouta managed to get through Ghana's defense and capitalize on a goalkeeping error, reaching the net and giving CAR the lead.

Despite CAR's early advantage, the Black Stars fought back. Goduine Koyalipou, the CAR forward, forced an excellent save from Ghana's goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi. The Black Stars created limited opportunities from open play, but their breakthrough came through a well-executed set piece just outside the 18-yard box, following a foul on Osman Bukari.

In a pivotal moment, Kudus stepped up to take the resulting free-kick, with Jordan Ayew nodding. The West Ham United player expertly placed the ball past Geoffrey Lembet in CAR's goal, leveling the score just before halftime. The two teams entered the break with one goal each.

CAR maintained its aggressive approach in the second half, often pressuring the Ghanaians. A volley from a rebound narrowly missed Ghana's post, and Salis Abdul Samed's attempt from an Ernest Nuamah pass ended up in Lembet's hands.

Ernest Nuamah's persistence shined through, though, as the 19-year-old striker seized on an Antoine Semenyo square pass to secure Ghana's triumph. This was Nuamah's first national team goal, and it clinched the Black Stars' qualifying for the tenth time in a row.

While this triumph is cause for celebration among Ghanaians and the football community, the job ahead remains difficult. After concluding the qualifying series on a high note, Ghana will face Liberia in a friendly encounter next week at the Accra Sports Stadium.
