From October 1, 2025, DStv subscribers in Ghana will enjoy 33% to 50% additional value on their current subscriptions. This follows a landmark agreement between the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and MultiChoice Africa.

The announcement was made by Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, during a press briefing in Accra on Monday, September 29, 2025.

According to the Minister, the decision emerged after extensive consultations involving the Ministry, the National Communications Authority (NCA), MultiChoice Africa, and MultiChoice Ghana.

How the New DStv Value Package Works

Under the new pricing structure:

  • Padi subscribers (GH¢59) → Upgraded to Access (GH¢99)

  • Access subscribers (GH¢99) → Upgraded to Family (GH¢190)

  • Family subscribers (GH¢190) → Upgraded to Compact (GH¢380) with access to live football matches

  • Compact subscribers (GH¢380) → Upgraded to Compact Plus (GH¢570)

  • Compact Plus subscribers (GH¢570) → Upgraded to Premium (GH¢865)

Premium customers will continue enjoying the flagship bouquet and also stand a chance to win exclusive trips to watch English Premier League matches.

Discounted Decoders and Dish Kits

In addition to subscription upgrades, MultiChoice Africa will offer a 50% subsidy on Zapper decoders and dish kits, reducing the price by GH¢555 for new customers.

“This means even more savings for Ghanaian subscribers,” Mr. George highlighted.

Tackling Decoder Piracy

Another critical issue addressed during negotiations was the cross-border smuggling of DStv decoders, particularly from Nigeria. According to the Minister, this illegal practice has:

  • Deprived Ghana of tax revenue

  • Denied customers access to authentic support services

  • Undermined local content creators

To combat the problem, a multi-agency task force has been established. The working group includes representatives from:

  • Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations

  • National Communications Authority (NCA)

  • Cyber Security Authority

  • Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)

  • Ghana Police Service

  • MultiChoice

Minister’s Perspective

Mr. George revealed that his initial request during discussions was for a 30% improvement in value. However, the final agreement exceeded expectations, delivering 33% to 50% additional benefits.

“I asked for 30%, but the lowest gain is 33% and the highest is 50%. This is a win for every Ghanaian DStv subscriber,” he emphasized.

The committee will reconvene in three months to evaluate the effectiveness of the new measures and address any outstanding concerns.
