The nation of Ghana is mourning the loss of a towering figure, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, who peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025. His death was officially confirmed by the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church in an emotional statement that described him as “Ghana’s beloved man of God, technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist.”

Apostle Safo, affectionately known as the “Star of Africa,” was more than a spiritual leader. He was widely celebrated as a visionary innovator, philanthropist, and the brain behind the Kantanka brand; a homegrown automotive and technology enterprise that put Ghana on the global industrial map.
Through the Kristo Asafo Church and his philanthropic initiatives, Apostle Safo became a beacon of hope for thousands. He tirelessly championed indigenous innovation, empowering local industries and inspiring generations of young Ghanaians to believe in their own creative potential.
In their statement, his family described him as “a true genius, a father to the fatherless, and a symbol of resilience who devoted his life to serving God and humanity.” Apostle Safo’s work spanned multiple fields: technology, agriculture, community development, and social empowerment; making him one of Ghana’s most remarkable national treasures.
He built schools, supported the underprivileged, and invested in science and innovation, all while guiding his church with unwavering faith. His legacy is etched not only in the vehicles and inventions of the Kantanka Group but also in the countless lives he touched through his generosity.
The official announcement, signed by his daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament, expressed the family’s deep grief while calling on Ghanaians to respect their privacy during this difficult period. Funeral arrangements, the statement added, will be communicated in due course.
