Peki Youth To Demonstrate Peacefully Over Poor Roads: FixTheCountry

A group in Peki calling itself, Peki Youth For Positive Change have planned to embark on a massive but peaceful demonstration if immediate steps are not taken by the government, the District assembly and all that matters to reshape the deplorable nature of their roads.

The Demonstration Harsh tagged #FixPekiRoadsNow is to call on people in authority to live up to task.

One of the conveners of the Demonstration, Hon.

Prince Gu-Barnes, an Assembly member for the Afeviwofe-Blengo electoral area bemoaned the bad state of their roads.

According to him, the several calls from Assembly Members (present and past), Traditional Authorities and Opinion Leaders on the District Assembly and Central Government (both in the NPP and NDC eras) to get the Peki town roads fixed and put in a motorable state. Unfortunately over decades these attempts have yielded no meaningful results hence the Demonstration.

He also added Peki Citizens for decades have contributed their widows mite and resources to find temporary solutions to these roads to make them motorable and also avert fatalities.

“We have tried to temporarily patch potholes with sacks of sand and dig shallow drains but they are soon washed away immediately it rains. The roads are now in very deplorable conditions and this becoming death traps. We have gotten to the stage where we need a more sustainable and permanent solution to these roads.”

The group wish to appeal to the DCE – South Dayi, Hon. Ernest Kwodjo Mallet, MP – South Dayi ,Hon. Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor), Minister Of roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta and the Volta regional minister ,Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa) as a matter of urgency to;

Reshape Peki town roads/link roads/access roads especially from the main Afeviwofe junction to the government hospital in Tsame.

• Construct U-drains for all roads reshaped.

Hon Sebastian Okyere, the assembly member of Tsame electoral area and a convener also stated that ,the Peki Government Hospital is the biggest referral hospital in the south Dayi district but the road leading to the hospital has rather worsened the conditions of people going to seek medical care.

Hon Prince Gu-Barnes leader of the group sounded a note of caution stating they are a peace loving and a non partisan group fighting to save the lives of Peki Citizens and also wanting the best for South Dayi.

Please fix our roads now, else, we will hit the street in the coming weeks in peaceful protests until it is done.
