Two persons have been announced dead by medical officers at Juaboso government hospital after a galamsey pit collapsed on them at Campso, a farming community in the Juaboso district of the Western North region.
This makes it the second time such an incident has occurred in the same community.
The deceased, Abubakari Gariba, 37, and Haruna Gariba 25 were working on the illegal mining site when a section of the pit collapsed on them.
Sources indicated that after the pit had collapsed, volunteers and the police patrol team from the Juaboso police command managed to rescue the two young men and they were rushed to Juaboso government hospital but confirmed dead on arrival by the medical officers.
The bodies have however been deposited at the Juaboso government hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
For now, the illegal mining concession owner, Kadri Tahiru has been arrested by the police assisting in the investigations.
