2022 World Cup: Otto Addo resigns as Ghana’s coach - CastinoStudiosgh

Otto Addo has resigned as Ghana’s coach following their World Cup group-stage elimination.

The 47-year-old former Ghana international player and talent coach replaced the sacked Milovan Rajevac in February, initially as interim boss, and was given a deal until the end of December.

He also has the role of talent coach at the German side Borussia Dortmund.

“I always said if we qualified for the World Cup I’d resign afterward, even if we were world champions,” he said.

“My family sees our future in Germany.”

Ghana won against South Korea after suffering a defeat in their first match against Portugal and lost to Uruguay in Otto Addo’s final game to finish bottom in Group H.

“Football is beautiful, sometimes it is ugly. It is ugly for us today. We have to learn and I’m very sure we will learn from this in the future,” he said.

“It has not got to do with the outcome of the result [Ghana’s World Cup elimination]. It would have ended if we were world champions. I have to respect the contract. I have to respect the club I am working for.” Addo told the media in Doha.

“Surely maybe one day I will get the chance to work with the GFA again but for the next two and half years, I have a contract with Dortmund and I have to respect that.” He added.

Addo was born in Hamburg to Ghanaian parents and has spent most of his playing and coaching career in Germany.
