Accra, Ghana, June 4, 2026. The torrential rainfall that swept through Accra on June 3 has left behind devastation, and among the hardest hit is young Ghanaian photographer Von Williams on Instagram as @Amswil_Concepts, based in Ashongman Estate. The floodwaters destroyed his studio and equipment valued at over GHC 400,000, wiping out years of hard work and investment in a single night.
Von Williams, known for his creative eye and rising influence in Ghana’s photography scene, lamented that the disaster has brought him back to “square zero in life.” His cameras, lighting gear, drones, and editing equipment, the very tools that powered his career, were all submerged and rendered unusable.
Accra’s floods are not new, but each year they leave countless families and businesses struggling to rebuild. For creatives like Von Williams, whose livelihood depends entirely on specialized equipment, the loss is catastrophic. His story highlights the broader vulnerability of Ghana’s creative industry to climate-related disasters.
In the wake of this tragedy, Von Williams is appealing to the public, fellow creatives, and philanthropists for support to rebuild his career. “Everything I worked so hard for is gone,” he shared, emphasizing that without assistance, his journey in photography may come to an abrupt end.
