Public transport Fares to be reduced by 10% effective 17th May 2023 - CastinoStudiosgh

Due to continuous reduction in prices of petroleum products in recent weeks, The Road Transport Operators have come to agreement to reduce Public Transport Fares effective Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

The decision was followed by a press statement released by the Road Transport Operators on Monday, May 15.

"In line with the Administrative Arrangement on Public Transport Fares, the Road Transport Operators have reduced public transport fares by 10 percent to accommodate for the reduction in the petroleum products observed over the period," the Road Transport Operators stated.

In a statement cooperatively signed by the General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, and Godfred Adulbire, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the operators said the decision has met the requirements of “Administrative Arrangement on Public Transport Fares, to shelter for reductions in prices of petroleum products undergone over the period.”

The new fares will affect shared taxis, intra-city (trotro), intercity (long-distance buses), and haulage vehicles.

The released statement further advised commercial transport operators to abide by the new fares and post the same at their loading terminals. "We further request all operators, commuters, and the general public to humbly cooperate for the success of the application of the new fares."

Prior to this reduction, transport fares had seen several increases by the rising cost of fuel at the time.

This new development comes at a time that industry watchers have predicted a further reduction in the prices of petroleum goods from Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
