Sing-A-Thon: Afua Asantewaa Wraps Up Daring Bid for Guinness World Record

Afua Asantewaa has successfully concluded her daring quest to shatter the Guinness World Record for the lengthiest individual singing marathon.

In a determined effort to surpass the 105-hour singing marathon set by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian maestro, in March 2012, Afua Asantewaa, the astute broadcast journalist and mother of three, seamlessly rendered a continuous stream of hundreds of Ghanaian melodies. This melodic journey commenced at the stroke of midnight on Sunday, December 24, 2023, and persevered through a difficult five-day singing marathon, reaching its climax at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023.

After her record-breaking endeavor on a Friday morning, the resilient songstress harmoniously sang for an impressive duration of five days, six hours, and 55 minutes.

Addressing the public following her extraordinary accomplishment, Afua Asantewaa conveyed heartfelt appreciation to all those who rallied behind her, both in attendance at the Akwaaba Village and those who, albeit absent, contributed their support. Reflecting on the passage of time during her musical feat, she candidly admitted, "There was a juncture where I found myself questioning the day, only to ascertain that it was, indeed, Friday.

On behalf of my kin, crew, volunteers, the media, and the Ghana Tourism Authority, I extend sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this endeavor; it has been a seamless journey and an unequivocal success," she declared.

The enterprising young woman aspires for her musical feat to cast a positive ripple effect on Ghana's music industry and hopes to kindle a flame of ambition among the youth, stating, "There exists a plethora of pursuits worth exploring."

"Special thanks are due to the Vice President and each individual; the enumeration is interminable... I express my gratitude to all and anticipate your presence this evening as we revel in celebration."

Supporters and dignitaries spanning diverse backgrounds gathered to applaud her tenacity and singular artistry.

The medical team also commended her for pushing through and revealed how she nearly ended it on day two. The doctor revealed that they used psychotherapy to keep her going and keep reminding her of “THE WHY”.

The collective team extolled Afua's exceptional rendition from the outset, fervently praying that "when the ultimate adjudication arrives, she shall emerge triumphant in breaking the record."
